PostSubject: Does Will and Marlena's relationship seem a little forced?   Mon Mar 19, 2012 5:33 am

This thought never really occurred to me too much until I started chatting to some members of Second Chances site about this topic on Twitter.

At first I actually liked the idea of Will and Marlena having a close relationship. A common mistake they make with a lot of soap characters is not having them more involved with their family members. I appreciate that they're showing more family interaction.

However, they're trying to make it look like Will and Marlena were always close with one another, which wasn't the case. When Will was growing up, his parents were always dropping him off at the Brady Pub with his great-grandparents if they needed a sitter. I remember seeing him with his grandfather Roman, I remember seeing him with his aunts and uncles, I remember seeing him with his grandmother Kate, I even remember him going to Africa with his father to visit his grandfather Bill. I barely remember him being around Marlena and John. In fact, the only time I remember them watching him was when Lucas and Sami went on the fateful ski trip where EJ raped Sami.

I understand that not everything has to take place onscreen. I was even okay with their relationship in the beginning, but now its starting to feel like Marlena's really rubbing their relationship in Sami's face. I do agree that Sami does need to be there for her son and that she needs to figure out what's going with him, but it's not like Marlena was mother of the year.

Plus if somebody had told my mother that there was something going on with her children and refused to tell her what, she would have freaked out just like Sami did. She would have wanted to know if we were hurt, if there was something wrong, etc. I understand that Marlena was trying to steer Sami in the right direction, but can you blame Sami for overreacting?

Also, was anybody else slightly creeped out when Marlena described her grandson as "deliciously normal"? scratch

You know, it always bothered me that Marlena didn't have a closer relationship with Sami and her kids. I know it's kinda out of the blue and random, but I do like the Marlena/Will relationship I think they're doing a great job. I like seeing Marlena being a sounding board and helping him work through his problems. When he was younger he didn't really have a lot of problems to talk about, except his mother of course lol but now he's grown up and has some real serious issues so it makes sense he would talk to Marlena who is a psychiatrist and has a lot of experience with that sort of thing. Smile

PostSubject: warning spoilers discussed! Kate   Tue Mar 20, 2012 9:46 pm

ok, here is the reply I was trying to make a few days ago be4 the computer ate it.

I don't think Marlena and Will are forced. I love the relationship they have now. They haven't always been close no, but to me it seems like they have.

what I don't like is Kate suddenly knowing Will is gay when she has been in very few scenes if any with him. How does she suddenly figure out he is out of the closet?

I knew a friend whose husband was gay and hid it from her for years. She was devastation upon learning the truth. Gay people know how to keep things hidden, especially from themselves and from their family members. So I don't get Kate's sudden I know you're gay Will routine.

Any thoughts on the Gramma's and Will issues?

I also thought is was weird having Marlena suddenly be there for Will, when in the past it was mostly Kate who was around him. And, yes, it was odd that Kate came out with knowing that Will was gay all along. However, I do like the Marlena/Will relationship. The two play very well off each other.

what i dont like is that the writers made that Marlena was always there to take care of will and raised him because Lumi couldnt WTF Lumi were better parents to will than Marlena ever was to sami and Kate was the one who helped Will with his school project while Marlena was too busy supporting Belle with her own designs and Marlena pretty much always followed John when he went out of town..

sometimes you just need to distance yourself from people. if they care they'll notice if they don't you know where you stand...

I like their relationship now. Its neat and she really does care for him. I don't honestly see where its forced.
